Many parents think that infant walkers will help their baby to walk. The truth is that walkers interfere with learning to walk.

The risk of infant walkers

1. It decreases the desire to walk by providing an easier alternative.
2. Strengthen the wrong muscles
3. Walkers can delay mental development
4. The risk of injury

My baby is trying his hardest to crawl, he gets up on his knees and rocks but just can't seem to get the co-ordination between moving arms and knees at the same time yet. It is often hard to figure out when children are going to do certain things. You can read up on all the averages that are recorded, but every child is different. If you try to rush them too much when they are not ready that could end up having adverse effects. I try to help my son by helping him try to move knees and arms, but he just laughs, he is not quite there yet.

Baby walkers are deemed unsafe because it gives children too much mobility than they need. The wheels in the baby walker get them to dangerous spots around the house faster than you can stop them. This is especially true if you have stairs or steps in your home. Worse, baby walkers can cause drowning if you kid strayed too far away from you and towards the outdoor pool.

Also, pinch injuries can be initiated by infant walkers. It's easy for the toes and the fingers of the baby to catch onto something. In a baby walker, kids sit in an upright position. That gives them the ability to reach on to objects, which in turn, could fall on them and hurt them.

The ban came down from Health Minister Pierre Pettigrew who praised companies that followed the volunteer ban set in 1989. He stated that Canadian children needed to be kept safe from the injuries commonly associated with the use of infant walkers. Canada is the first and only country to ban the use of baby walkers, in other areas such as the State of Washington in the United States they have been outlawed in child daycare centers. In other areas the voluntary ban of baby walkers has taken place. There is continued momentum globally from various groups trying to get local, national and international banning of the product.

What's the most dangerous form of transportation on earth? Believe it or not, it's the baby walker and your child could be its next victim.

This was revealed by the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics which are both calling for a ban on the manufacture and sale of mobile baby walkers that are responsible for over 25,000 child injuries in the United States each year.

Baby walkers, or sometimes also called a walking ring date back as far as 1870. Parents have been using this aid to amuse and keep babies occupied for many years. Nowadays many parents use this plaything to encourage their baby to walk.Of course, when parents talk about babies, walkers and encouraging them to walk, one question is bound to be raised sooner or later...
